March was full of travel goodness across Australia & New Zealand – so here’s my round up of what I did and of course how much I spent!
Well March has been pretty hectic travel wise – but in a really good way!
After starting in Raglan where sun, surf and fun times were the order of the day I had a last minute change of plan and teamed up with the guys from Kiwi Experience to explore more of the North Island – which was incredible! I definitely didn’t give New Zealand enough credit for how much is going on!
After a whirlwind tour (which also included catching up with my travel buddy Sammy in Taupo – cheers again for the bed!) I caught up with my bro in Auckland and we bounced over to Melbourne to be reunited with my parents who had flown over to see us both.
It’s been great so far showing them around Melbourne, The Great Ocean Road and we’re currently kicking back in Byron Bay…I’m stoked they’re enjoying it heaps!
Anyway here’s my stats round up for March 2015;

Overland Distance; 1,640.46km
Flight Distance; 4,000.66km
Total Distance; 5,641.12km
Countries; New Zealand, Australia
Main Spots; Raglan, Auckland, Hot Water Beach, Waitomo, Hobbiton, Rotorua, Taupo, Melbourne, The Great Ocean Road, Byron Bay
Transport Taken; surfboard, Kiwi Experience Bus, local bus, taxi, white water raft, tube, plane, campervan, tram
Flights – AKL-MEL (Virgin Australia), MEL-BNE (Virgin Australia)

Money Breakdown
New Zealand – £519.71 over 22 days = £23.62 per day
Australia – £152.87 over 9 days = £16.98 per day
Total spent – £672.58 over 31 days = £21.69 per day
Cheapest Place – Once again Raglan was the cheapest spot by far given the fact I was working for accommodation and cooking. Australia has also been pretty cheap though but this is down to the fact I’m travelling with my parents for a few weeks and my mother refuses to let me pay for anything!haha!
Most Expensive Place – Melbourne was probably the most expensive spot, but to be honest nothing has been insanely costly due to all the above mentioned things! If you take out that fact though I’d say Rotorua would’ve been pretty costly – simply because there’s so much to do!
Biggest Splurge/Unforeseen Expense – I worked with Kiwi Experience on my mini New Zealand Roadtrip so I must admit that would easily have bene my biggest splurge travel wise. Other than that I did go on a bit of a spending spree at the Ripcurl and Quiksilver outlets down in Torquay!
Highlight – Although my NZ trip was epic my highlight has to be being reunited with my parents and showing them around Australia – its great to all be back together as a family again including my little bro…the first time we’ve all been in one country for over 5 years!
Travel wise there’s been heaps of amazing stuff going on, from white water rafting, to sea kayaking, hiking the Tongarario Crossing and even zorbing – although the road trip along the Great Ocean Road was probably the highlight!
Lowlight – To be honest all of this month has been a blast! I do have a bit of a cold at the moment though!hahaha!
Top Shot
Soooooooo many pics to choose from this month!
My personal favourite though has to be the view over Manu Bay in Raglan – sunshine and pumping surf! I think even if you don’t surf you can appreciate the beauty of this!

What’s Next?
Well the rest of this month looks like it’ll be spent in Australia. I’m currently up in Byron Bay but I’ll be heading down to Sydney in a few days to show the parents around there before they bounce back to the UK so it’ll just be me and Josh on the road…
…which will probably result in heaps of surfing and beach time as we’ve already planned a return to Byron!haha!
