Byron Bay, Sydney, Spot X and saying goodbye to the parents – April was all about quality travel not quantity. Here’s the budgets, stats and lowdown…

Well what can I say about April – it was pretty damn awesome!
I sent the last few weeks showing the parents around Byron Bay and Sydney during the final part of their trip to Australia and then the last few weeks have been spent surfing and road tripping with my brother as we headed back to Byron – yeah he loves it as much as I do!
There’s obviously been some bad times too as the parents flew home – I’m pretty sure they had an epic time though!)
Still the suns been shinning and I’m back in Byron Bay so life all good!
Anyway here’s my stats round up for April 2015;

Overland Distance; 1417.54km
Flight Distance; 857.74km
Total Distance; 2,275.28km
Countries; Australia
Main Spots; Byron Bay, Sydney, Blue Mountains, Spot X Surf Camp
Transport Taken; plane, minibus, surfboard, Mojo Surf Bus, double decker bus, car
Flights – BNE-SYD (Virgin Australia)
Money Breakdown
Australia – £486.03 over 30 days = £15.67 per day
Total spent – £486.03 over 31 days = £15.67 per day

Cheapest Place – This month was pretty budget friendly as the parents basically refused to let me pay for stuff – but I managed to sneak in the odd few rounds of beers and some meals!haha!
Most Expensive Place – It has to be Byron Bay this month! We overlooked the fact it was Bluesfest so it was crazy expensive for accommodation…around $40AUD for a dorm bed per night! Moral of the story guys – double check the events calendar!
Biggest Splurge/Unforeseen Expense – This month was pretty easy going on the wallet thanks to travelling with the parents! However I did have a big personal splurge on a new surfboard and Apple Watch!
…I didn’t feel like it should be included in my monthly spend though!

Highlight – As an overall highlight showing my parents around on the rest of their Australia trip was amazing, they were as stoked for Oz as me and my brother are which is epic! I think my favourite part of that though was taking them on the Byron Bay lighthouse walk though – spotting dolphins and soaking up the Aussie coastline. I love it there so it was great to share it with them both!
The Sydney to Byron Bay surf trip me and my bro jumped on was pretty epic too, we met some awesome new buddies and shared some fun waves with them at the Spot X camp…including more than a few glasses of goon!
Lowlight – Of course saying goodbye to the parents was a massive lowlight (yeah mum cried as usual!)
What’s Next?
Well I’ve already teased that I have some big change of plans to be announced soon – but I’m holding off on that for a bit as I’ve just confirmed that I’m heading to my first new country of the year next week – FIJI!
It’s only a quick trip, but I’m super stoked to finally visit these beautiful islands, share some kava and hopefully scuba dive with some shark too! Yeeewwwwww!
…but yes there’s exciting things coming soon!
I love the monthly budget posts that you do!
Amazing you could get away with spending that little money, but of course if your parents paid most of it. My mum is exactly the same. Whenever she visits me in London, she pays for nearly everything. It makes me feel bad but she is a very insisting lady :-D
hahaha yeah mums are like that hey?! Glad you’re liking the monthly breakdowns though! where’s your next adventure?
Love the monthly stats updates. Your blog posts inspired me to travel again and the monthly stats reassured me I could!
I’ve got a year off from my job and I head off in a few months time. I wonder how many other people you have inspired to do the same – thank you!
P.s Keen to get on a sea shepherd boat during my year of travels – so really good to see you supporting the cause wearing their t-shirt.
Hey Ursy,
Stoked to hear you’re getting back on the road again! Just keep in mind that I do get a few discounts and freebies for blogging so you’ll need to adjust your budget from mine slightly!
What’s your plan for your year out?
Sea Shepherd are awesome – let me know if you end up helping out!
