HOSTEL REVIEW – Phangan Beach Resort (inc Promo Code!)

Koh Phangan is the famed venue for the Full Moon at Haad Rin and that’s pretty much my sole reason for heading there on my trip to Thailand.

And my home for the 3 nights I was there was Phangan Beach Resort.

PBR isn’t in Haad Rin itself – something I was keen to avoid so that I could actually get a good nights sleep and actually find a room – it’s based about 15mins up the road on Ban Thai Beach, a quaint little village up the coast on the northwest side.

As far as location goes you can’t get much better –  it’s slap on the beach front and only a short walk from numerous places to eat and the obligatory 711.

The resort itself is a rather upmarket backpacker affair.

Not in the realms of flash packing though – but definitely a higher level of comfort and service than 10 bed backpacker dorms!

In fact the resort is a collection of private double and twin cabins, all with their own en suite (albeit slightly al fresco!) and balconies to relax on. The grounds are in immaculate condition and it has an almost backpacker hotel feel about the place – not in a pretentious way, just with a few more creature comforts than I’m used to whilst travelling!

My room was spacious, secure, clean and most importantly comfortable.

The PBR also has some some great on site facilities too.

There’s a small restaurant (although at 120baht per meal it’s a bit more expensive that eating at a local street restaurant) but even so it’s great for convenience and the meal I had there hit the spot!

Within this area there’s sofas and a big TV so there’s a good social vibe going on.

More importantly though there’s a pool and beach bar aswell!

The beach bar is moderately priced (around 70baht for a small beer) and is open until the last person goes home!

But if your wanting to really relax then next to the pool area is a mini spa where you can grab a Thai massage or manicure before grabbing the 100baht taxi into town.

The staff are pretty helpful too and can help you sort everything from Ferry Tickets to your next stop through to moped hire.

PBR is a great option if your travelling with a small group or as a couple – however events such as the pre Full Moon BBQ aim to break down the group ‘clicks’ and include the solo traveller.

If you are going it alone it’s a great place to unwind and treat yourself – but it may well lack the social scene you are wanting. Don’t let this put you off considering the place, just be aware!

Overall PBR is a great base for Full Moon or simply to explore Koh Phangan. Like the rest of the island FM is incredibly busy so book up early to avoid disappointment. Cost wise it’s reasonable but not the cheapest option – but let’s face it you’re booking your own little bungalow a stones throw from the sea, so you certainly get what you pay for!

Highly recommended.
