HOSTEL REVIEW; Lub D Silom, Bangkok (inc Promo Code)

There’s nothing better than a comfy nights sleep on the road – especially when you’re partying hard at the likes of Bangkoks Koh San Road, and my recent stay at Lub D’s Silom Hostel was nothing short of the perfect crash pad.

Situated in the suburb of Silom its about a 10-15min tuk tuk journey from Koh San (which cost about 80baht) – far enough away to be able to chill and avoid the party scene if you wish, but close enough that you can jump into a hectic night out at the drop of a hat!

Silom itself has a heap to offer and is a great place to explore – whether you’re looking to shop, have a few posh drinks on one of the rooftop bars (including the one made famous in the Hangover 2) or simply see another side of the Thai capital.

The Hallways

When it comes to the hostel Lub D have done a great job on their flagship building. For me its the perfect mix of modern and familiar – it has everything you’d expect from a modern sleek hostel but without the pretentiousness of a hotel. It has charm and a unique style but without feeling empty and bland.

The layout feels kind of like a kids play area in a weird way – very open and you can see through the levels which is great and they’ve finished it an a rather intriguing industrial design style!

Facilities wise I couldn’t complain at all – free wifi throughout (and strong fast wifi at that!), cafe and bar area, cinema lounge, tour booking service, cheap laundry machines (one of the cheapest places to do my washing in Asia actually!) and amazing shared bathrooms – like amazing bathrooms…waterfall showers, hot water – it was a joy after some of the places I stayed!

Mixed Dorm

When it comes to atmosphere the vibe in Lub D was very friendly and fun, both from the other backpackers in the hostel and also the staff themselves! They run a series of activities on a weekly basis – from cooking classes to pub crawls – so if you’re not quite sure what to do in Bangkok or are travelling solo there’s plenty of ideas to keep you busy.

My nights sleep at Lub D (I stayed in a sleeper twin with my buddy Ross) was perfect. The beds were comfortable (with rooms being cleaned daily unless you request otherwise) ac’d and with all the little extras that make your stay that much nicer – like personal reading lights in each bed, enough power sockets to charge everything in one go and even a desk to get some work done!

The dorms are very much set out in the same way – so even if you want to save yourself some money you wont loose out on creature comforts and they have the added extra of a personal locker per bed.

When it comes to cost you can expect to pay around £8 per night for a dorm, £11 each for a twin or £16 each for a private double. Now in terms of Asia that’s not the cheapest place to lay your head – however most people use Bangkok as the start or finish for their time in Asia, and trust me those are the points where you’ll be wanting a bit more luxury, something that Lub D provides without loosing the communal living and fun that hostel life is all about.

Good news for you guys though – I’ve teamed up with the guys at Lub D to save you 10% off your entire stay there – you simply have to use the following promo code when booking online through their site;
