HOSTEL REVIEW – iBed, Koh Samui

iBed in Koh Samui was my first taste of hostels in Thailand and it didn’t disappoint. I actually booked it before arriving as there’s nothing worse than landing after a long haul flight and having to locate a bed!
Having weighed up the option iBed won me over with it’s sleek website, free wifi and the fact it just looked pretty epic!

In Samui the main backpacker venue is Chaeweng beach, slightly north and about a 300baht taxi journey away from Lamai beach, where the hostel is. I couldn’t be dealing with a hectic backpacker street in my first night so Lamai seemed a lot quieter and less in your face – and I was right.

The hostel itself is situated right on the main street meaning street food, the 7/11 and main nightlife are a couple minutes walk away – and the beach is literally across the road!
iBed is perhaps one of the cleanest hostels I’ve ever stayed in – the place is immaculate!

Bed wise all the bunks are built into the walls and they each come with a privacy curtain which is a nice touch. Not only that but each bed has a locker at the end, personal light, plug sockets and even a mini tv – now that’s some pretty nice touches for a backpacker hostel!
The price isn’t the cheapest for Asia, but at around £10 per night for a 4 share dorm it’s still amazing value for money. Coupled with the fact they can sort out ferry transfers and full moon party packages it’s a great place to start your trip in the south. Their staff were really helpful too.

Atmosphere wise the hostel was pretty empty when I stayed there (this is mainly due to the fact everyone had already made their way to Phangan for the party) but it’s got a good communal area and a free breakfast as an added bonus – the fresh banana bread was amazing!

You can’t really go far wrong with iBed…the only really downside is the fact it’s slightly to the south of the island, making it a slight trek to get to Big Buddah beach or the main centre of backpacker nightlife in Chaeweng.

Highly recommend!
