If your over from England you’ll have noticed the distinct lack of homely, banter filled English style pubs here in Oz. But have no fear – Byron houses a nic nak filled watering whole, The Rails.
Tucked in behind the bus station The Rails is, admittedly, not much to look at. But what it lacks in initial impact it makes up with the kind of atmosphere us English expect from a pub – a place filled with stories, local regulars and all manner of intriguing things filling the walls!
Although it’s main selling point is definitely British – it’s the only venue in Byron that actually sells a PINT of beer!
Sold?! Hahaha!
But the Rails is more than just a pint, it’s also a really chillaxed live music venue, with all mlanner of acts. In the summer it plays host to the busker music comp, with the winner claiming a set at the nearby Bluesfest ( see my April Blogs for info )
A lot of the venue is a covered but outdoor setup which makes it perfect for a relaxing summer pint. But fear not as the winter rolls in, the Rails steps up to the mark and rolls out the fire pits. Yup, you can huddle around a fire pit with a group of friends and chat away over a roaring fire – surreal but enjoyable all the same.
A good alternative venue and a great way to meet a whole heap of locals – definitely one to slot in on your way up through the town for a quiet pint or a weekend pub crawl.
