A Pretty Good Summer (By British Standards!)

I can’t believe it’s August already!

That’s two thirds of 2011 behind us.

But I’m stoked about how quickly the time’s passing because my savings going pretty well (in between spontaneous splurges and mini trips!) which means I’m edging closer and closer to my next big trip.

It’s not all about looking forward though, I’m actually enjoying spending some time on my home turf back in the Shire.

So far the summers been pretty good to me too – the sun seems to spend alot of time high in the sky and dodging the clouds, it’s pretty blooming hot of late and I’m doing plenty of things to keep myself busy. This blog is continually sucking up alot of my spare time and keeping me focused, but most importantly the surf has been doing it’s thing – which is a rarity for the summer months in the UK.

In fact most of my days off have been spent in the water – something you’ll be all too aware of if you know me or you’re following me on twitter (@BckPackerBanter). I’ve also taken the time to catch up with some of my buddies from my travels in Oz, connect with my fellow travellers and also add a few good strings to the bow of my CV.

I’ve even finally got around to sorting out alot of my camera equipment and between that and my iPhone I’ve been doing alot more photography – which has had a knock on affect with my writing and I’ve been enjoying doing quite a few commisions for TNT Mag and Drift Surf…happy day all round.

So yeah summer is on it’s way out – roll on the winter swells!

But in the meantime August should be a pretty exciting month, both for me and for the blog – there’s a mini trip and then the build up to my 3 weeks in Thailand too. And sandwhiched somewhere in there I should have room for some pretty big annoucements…but that’s all hush hush for the moment!

I guess in my random ramblings of summer so far there’s a slight moral – preparing for and saving for travelling shouldn’t be a massively arduous task. Sure you have to make some fairly hefty cutbacks on the social front. Indeed spending a few extra days simply relaxing and not spending will be in order, but at the end of the day there’s no point wasting time, you simply don’t get it back. Use your time wisely – plan and research but also make time for some fun and to let your hair down.

If you don’t you’ll simply begin to resent having to save and it’ll kill your travel buzz.

This weekend I dare you all to put travel plans aside, get messed up and enjoy the weekend….go on….dares ya!
