NEWS; Japan Earthquake

A massive earthquake measuring 8.9 on the richter scale hit Japan just under an hour a go – resulting in a 10metre high tsunami ploughing into the city of Sendai.

Buildings throughout the country and Tokyo shook for minutes before it subsided but 2 waves of water followed.

1 person has already been confirmed to have died and 10millions are now without power after the quake triggered landslides and cause nuclear power plants into auto shut down. Tokyo’s subways have now been evacuated and Narita airport is currently closed.

Neighbouring countries including Taiwan and Indonesia have now also issued tsunami warnings as a result.

After seeing the news breaking over twitter I put on the TV in time to catch live feed of the water gushing through the countryside, I’m sure images of this devastation will only get worse as the full destruction is reported.

Our thoughts go out to those affected.

UPDATE: A tsunami warning has now been issued across the Pacific and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated in Hawaii, and islands just off of Russia.

The death toll in Japan has now reached 18 but is expected to continue to rise as rescue efforts progress.

UPDATED 14:15: Its now being reported that hundreds of bodies are being recovered in Japan as a result of the mornings surges.

The Tsunami has now also hit the islands of Hawaii – where the waves engulfed Waikiki beach and breached the breakwater at Honolulu. The islands have been on high alert since it hit Japan so it’s hoped loss of life will be at a minimum.
