I fell in love with Koh Tao and wish I could’ve stayed alot longer, one of the reasons was how gorgeous the island is, but the other is definitely due to where I stayed – Koh Tao Backpackers.
KTB is located mid way up Sairee Beach on the west coast of Tao – right I the heart of the main backpacking area.
This means location wise you couldn’t really get much better, it’s a quick stroll to a whole heaps of bars, clubs, shops and of course the beach!
It is however set back enough off the main road to be quiet enough for a good nights kip!
Cost was the main draw here – at only 300baht per night for a shared dorm (roughly £6) it leaves you with a good amount of dollar to spend elsewhere, such as the restaurant and bar that forms part of it on the other side of the road!
By staying at KTB you instantly get 10baht off a beer (making them about 70 for a small) and 10baht off the meals (bringing them down to 60). I ate there a lot and the food is tasty and generously portioned – both the Thai and western dishes

Attached to the bar area is the pool – which means there’s a great chilled out vibe during the day, but an epic pool party atmosphere in the evening. Especially for the Friday night free BBQ – it all gets rather chaotic!
There is no communal area within KTB, so the bar area doubles up as this – which is never a bad thing!
Dorm wise they’re basic but adequate. There’s free wifi across all rooms, free lockers, air con and communal shower/toilets …what more could you ask for?!
The reception is 247 and the place was clean and secure, to be honest there’s not much I can fault about it at all!
The vibe across the whole place was amazing and I met such a great group of people.
The added bonus is that is you book a dive course through Davey Jones Locker (review coming next week) then your accommodation here is thrown in for free!
Bargain!
Koh Tao Backpackers come highly recommended and all round it ticks all the boxes from a backpacker perspective – keep your eyes posted for an epic promo to combine with your diving next week.
