HOSTEL REVIEW – Dingos Resort, Rainbow Beach
Either side of my Fraser Island trip I stayed a night in Rainbow Beach at Dingo Beach Resort. Although it was part of my 4×4 package I decided it needed a review as you can do Fraser without it and stay elsewhere.
My first impression of the place was very positive. The reception staff were extremely helpful and smiley and the place was modern and clean.
Walking through the building to get to my dorm it was clear that my initial impression was correct.
The dorms were clean, complete with a sink, power plugs and a spacious en suite. The whole place was in great condition and very clean.
The layout of Dingos is rather unique in my experience. The whole place is single floored and consists of 3 buildings – 2 dorm blocks and a bar/communal area. In the centre of the layout is a pool area which is a great way to escape the tropical heat.
The place is big enough to be social but small enough to feel homely – something that I love about smaller hostels.
As previously mentioned there is a bar on site which serves cocktails and pints at reasonable prices – non happy hour pints are $6 dropping to $5 between 7 and 9. The cocktails are a good shout at $6 too and pack a decent punch!
You may be out off with the fact there’s an onsite bar but it closes at midnight so you can get a solid nights sleep.
Unfortunately due to licence laws associated with the bar you cannot consume your own booze on site, which means drinking can get expensive quite quickly.
Location wise its pretty set too – across the road from the bus stop and only a short walk from the supermarket, shops, and more importantly – the beach!
My stay here was fun and comfortable and it provided everything you’d really need from a hostel – good beds, good vibe, laundry room, Internet and a great location. Nothing really to complain about at all – even the security were friendly! Its a great place to relax before and after Fraser Island, what i would say is dont expect a party hostel, its more of a mellow beach one. You can also save yourself some good money by combining your 4×4 trip with a stay here, highly recommended
