Farewell to the Sibling

Yesterday I said farewell to my brother, Josh, who came over during his Uni summer holiday to surf and party with me here in Byron Bay.
But in true Stevens fashion it wasn’t well planned!

After a rather messy Sunday night that spilled into the early hours of Monday morning it was obvious that we wouldn’t be feeling that great when we woke up.
I also had to work, so my alarm woke me up at 8am, and I promptly woke up Josh – who wanted to get up before midday for a change and nip into town grabbing present and sorting out final bits and pieces.
Due to his flight not being until 7pm we estimated that he needed to leave Byron for Brisbane airport around 2pm.
However, despite having 7 weeks to plan and book the shuttle bus, it still hadn’t been done.

After a Skype session to the parentals I did another bus run, and on my return decided to book Josh’s bus. It turned out that there was only two runs a day during winter – one at 4pm (way too late) and one at 11am.

It was already 10am.

The next 45 minutes saw some of the most last minute and rushed packing I’ve ever seen, even when Megan and Lorna nearly missed their flight in Cairns!

Money was withdrawn, buses booked, extra stuff packed, didgeridoos wrapped and incomplete goodbyes said.
It was rather manic to say the least!

Eventually I got him to the bus station with 15mins to spare, where we had time to say some proper goodbyes and banter about everything we should’ve done but didn’t and all the epic surf sessions and partying that had occurred over the previous 7 weeks – which had flown by.

Before we knew it it was time for Josh to load all his bags onto the bus and head to the airport.

It’s a weird feeling saying goodbye again. Especially due to the fact I’m not sure when I’ll see him again or which country that may be in.

It’s been an epic few weeks little bro – me and Jonesey will miss you in the lineup, but at least there will be more waves for us ;P

See you soon…ish…?!
