Backpacking Around Europe – How To Get It Right

Having travelled around some of the most beautiful places in the world; including Australia, South America and the Far East it could be said that I know a thing or two about how to get about in some of the most remote places on Earth.

However, we all struggle on our travels at times, and when we do come across a problem it’s important to know how to deal with the situation.

Although Europe isn’t quite as dangerous as say South America, there are everyday problems that every good American backpacker needs to be made aware of.

Take a relevant Résumé with you

If you’re planning to work during your backpacking trip, which is sometimes a necessity, having both a physical and electronic curriculum vitae on you is an immediate advantage. Before you head off on your travels make sure your résumé is up-to-date and will help you find work quickly once you reach your destination.

Don’t overlook the idea of being a kitchen porter or bar worker, if you’re surrounded by people your own age who are also travelling work in Europe can be one of the best experiences going.

Etiquette is the start of every friendship

Whatever country you’re travelling to, etiquette is bound to change from place-to-place, and if you happen to be flitting from one country to the next in a matter of days this can of course be very confusing.

What many people tend to forget however is that a few basic rules translate into every language, and if you’re polite enough you should encounter very few problems.

After all, the saying ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do’ does have real life implications.

Treat yourself every now and again

Although backpackers often view enduring poverty to be a badge of honour, there’s absolutely no shame in treating yourself every now and again.

Though some may not like the idea of treating themselves to the sleeping cabins of a train, or a three course meal in an expensive restaurant, the truth is after a week or two on the road it will be good for both you and your sanity – even if it isn’t great for your wallet.

Keep in contact

Even though you’ll be likely travelling with your partner or closest of friends, one of the great reasons that many backpacking journeys fall apart is due to the simple fact that people become homesick when they are thousands of miles from the comforts of home.

Though social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are great for writing to friends and family, nothing quite beats a phone conversation.

Sim Smart Pre Paid international cell phones & SIM cards are great for travelling and ensure that you’ll be saving money while you talk to your loved ones back home.
